Visit Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park

Being less than 20 miles from the boundary of the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park, our rental holiday apartments in Milngavie make for the perfect accommodation base if you’re looking for a trip including mountains, lochs, wildlife and more!

Just a 30min drive to Balloch and Drymen, and you can spend the day taking part in any number of activities.

To help you get started, here are a few activities you should consider!

Hill Walking

Scotland is famed for its Munros, with people travelling far and wide to “bag a Munro”. The Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park is fortunate to be home to 21 munros, perhaps the most familiar by name being Ben Lomond, right on the banks of Loch Lomond (just a 23 mile drive from our apartments).

The park also includes the well walked “Arrochar Alps”, encompassing Beinn Ime, Beinn Narnain and Ben Vane, all of which are Munros. It also includes the popular Cobbler mountain.

There are a number of smaller hills for easier walks and climbs, including Conic Hill.

The famous West Highland Way also cuts through the national park, starting in Milngavie, for those feeling more adventurous!

Water Activities

While there are plenty of other lochs across the National Park, the famous Loch Lomond is closest to our accommodation and is home to an incredible number of water sport activities.

If you’re looking for something more relaxed, then you could consider one of the Loch Lomond Cruise tours, or if you’re feeling more adventurous, you could consider:

  • Paddleboarding (SUP)

  • Open Water Swimming

  • Canoeing or Kayaking

  • Sailing

  • Windsurfing

Various suppliers offer these activities around the loch.

A word of caution though … lochs are cold, and there are often sudden drops of depth close to the shore. While the above activities can be great fun, we highly recommend you take note of the water safety guidance offered on the national park official website: https://www.lochlomond-trossachs.org/plan-your-visit/respect-park-stay-safe/fun-stay-safe-water

Loch Lomond shores

There’s enough to see and do at Loch Lomond Shores and Balloch to keep you busy for the day. Just a 30 minute drive from our apartments in Milngavie, Loch Lomond Shores has plenty of parking and is easy to find.

Shops offer typically Scottish gifts such as Tweed and Whisky, through to clothing, jewellery, accessories and souvenirs.

Breakfast and lunch can be eaten at various cafes, offering a variety of types of food.

Activities on offer include the Loch Lomond SEALIFE Aquarium, Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre and Treezone. Or visit the Maid of the Loch.

If you manage to cover all that and still have time left in your day, you can then go exploring the nearby areas, by venturing into Ballach for more shops and restaurants, exploring Balloch Country Park, or hiring a bike to go further afield!
